A couple of paragraphs is plenty: what you're building, what's in the way, and roughly when you need it. If it's a fit I'll say so, and if it isn't I'll tell you that too and point you somewhere better.
If you're not sure whether it's worth asking, ask. A short conversation costs nothing and I'll give you a straight read on whether the problem needs someone like me.
What helps
- What the system does, or is meant to do
- What's blocking you — a decision, a build, or something already broken
- Your timeline, even approximately
- Whether you have engineers in-house who'd own it afterward
